This talk highlights observational progress in several areas of particle astrophysics: the detection of astrophysical neutrinos by IceCube, measurement of antimatter cosmic rays by AMS02, detection of black hole merger by LIGO, and the significant refinement of CMB anisotropy data by Planck. For each of these topics, I (i) describe the observational progress, (ii) explain an essential open question related to the observations, (iii) discuss how and what future analysis and observations would lead to a solution.
