The simplest prototype of a calculabe, perturbative model that breaks supersymmetry was discovered by O'Raifeartaigh more than three decades ago. Somewhat surprisingly, there are phases of this model that were overlooked. We will see that in these phases, R- symmetry is broken as well as supersymmetry. Moreover, the vacuum of the theory can reside at a scale much larger than all the fundamental scales of the O'R model, therby potentially explaining the remarkable hierarchy between the GUT scale and the electroweak scale.
