Strain tunable magnetism at oxide domain walls

In this study we have used scanning Superconducting QUantum Interference Device (SQUID) to image SrTiO3 and SrTiO3 based interfaces (LaAlO3/SrTiO3 and gamma-Al2O3/SrTiO3). At 4 K we detected weak stripes of magnetic and susceptibility signals oriented along the SrTiO3 cubic crystallographic directions [1]. These magnetic stripes sit along the channels of current flow previously reported by Kalisky et al. [2] [3]. Surprisingly, we find that the magnetic modulations along these stripes become stronger at higher temperatures and local stress. These data can shed light on the interplay between magnetism, superconductivity, polarity and the structure of complex oxide interfaces.
