Plastic scintillators are widely used in industry and basic research as ionizing radiation detectors due to their fast
response and low price relative to other types of detectors. However, since the scintillator base materials have poor
mechanical properties, current production and processing methods, based on
top-down manufacturing concept, cannot be used for production of complex geometries and multi-material scintillators.
The emerging 3D printing techniques, based on the bottom-up manufacturing concept, allows the manufacturing of both
complex and multi-material scintillators. In 2014 we demonstrated the production of 3D printed scintillator for the
first time . Currently, we are able to use different 3D printing techniques for scintillator manufacturing. I will
discuss our results and the future plans for possible 3D printed scintillators.
