Simplified Variational Principles for Non-Stationary Topological Fluid Dynamics

In this work we introduce a three functions variational formalism for non stationary barotropic flows. This is less than the four variables which appear in the standard equations of fluid dynamics which are the velocity vector field V and the density rho. One of the functions in the formalism appears to be non-single valued in the case that the flow's helicity is non-zero.
