The strong Nernst effect observed in cuprate superconductors is believed to be a result of vortices moving in the presence of an applied temperature gradient. However, previous analytic treatments of the effect haven't related it directly to the dynamics of vortices. In this study we use a generalized Langevin equation to describe the vortex dynamics in a two dimensional superconductor within the Debye-Hückel approximation. This enables us to calculate the thermoelectric response coefficients and relate them to the equilibrium magnetization.
